7th Session of the Expert mechanism on the right to development

On April 4, Sakiko Fukuda-Parr, Chair of the Committee for Development Policy (CDP), participated in the 7th Session of the Expert mechanism on the right to development, discussing the move to "beyond GDP" from a right to development perspective. Professor Fukuda-Parr stressed the importance of contextualizing achievements in development, and the degree to which states are meeting their obligations as duty bearers, against available resources. She also observed that a plethora of indicators exist that measure development beyond GDP but that these are not used in decision-making on issues such as allocation of development resources.
