On 11 February 2021, the UN General Assembly has adopted a resolution to provide Angola, on an exceptional basis, with an additional preparatory period of three years before its effective data of graduation from the least developed country (LDC) category. The General Assembly took into consideration the prolonged economic recession that Angola has been confronting and its socioeconomic vulnerabilities exacerbated by the global crisis triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic which have further disrupted the sustainable development progress of the country. Angola is now scheduled to graduate on 12 February 2024.
