CDP Secretariat visits São Tomé and Príncipe

From 9 to 13 September the Inter-agency Task Force (IATF) on graduation of least developed countries (LDCs) conducted a mission to São Tomé and Príncipe to discuss the possible impact of the country's graduation from the LDC category, scheduled for 2024.

During the visit the Secretariat of the Committee for Development Policy (CDP), as member of the IATF, briefed government officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other relevant ministries as well as the Council of Ministers, including the Prime Minister, on all aspects of the graduation process. This was followed by consultations on the same topic with a broader audience (stakeholders from the private sector, UN Country Team, international financial institutions, bilateral partners and other organizations) in coordination with the UN Resident Coordinator team.

The mission was able to dispel the government’s overall concern on the graduation and additionally provided the CDP with valuable information on the situation in São Tomé and Príncipe to better understand the challenges the country is facing.
