Gradjet – Helping LDCs understand graduation

On 26 October the Secretariat of the Committee for Development Policy (CDP) successfully launched the Gradjet LDC graduation website (www.gradjet.org) attended by Government officials from 10 LDCs, international agencies and other interested stakeholders.

Very well received by participants, Gradjet helps government officials in LDCs understand what it means to leave the LDC category and to plot a course for future action. Gradjet is a “very informative and useful guiding tool to manage the graduation process. It is organised, simple and easy to follow,” said Pema Khandu, Department of Trade, Ministry of Economic Affairs, Bhutan.

During the launch, officials from Bangladesh, Bhutan and Vanuatu made presentations on how they may use the tool, identified areas of possible improvement and how they will incorporate it into their planning. “Gradjet adds important value for our [LDC graduation] preparations,” said Anwar Hussein, national LDC graduation focal point in the Economic Relations Division, Ministry of Finance, Bangladesh.

Gradjet is aimed not only at governments but at the wider development community and anyone else interested in LDC graduation. Tailored to each country, it shows what graduation means in context. The easy to use interface shows what happens before, during and after leaving the LDC category and provides contacts, information and suggestions about what to do at each stage. In general, users can select a country to access relevant information. Additionally, designated users can log in, save information and download it later, when needed.
