Presentation of the 2020 CDP Report to ECOSOC

On 3 June 2020, Prof. José Antonio Ocampo, Chair of the Committee for Development Policy (CDP), introduced the Committee’s Report on it’s 22nd Session at the Management Meeting (MM) of ECOSOC's 2020 Management Segment, via WebEx. The Chair referred to the various sections in the report and the related recommendations, focusing on the main conclusions, including the theme of the Economic and Social Council for 2020, the Voluntary National Reviews, the CDP’s conclusion of its comprehensive review of the LDC criteria, the Committee’s monitoring work on graduated and graduating countries and on ways to improve support. The Chair also made reference to how Covid-19 is affecting LDCs and that the Committee for Development Policy is deeply concerned about the possible negative impacts of the Covid-19 crisis on LDCs.

The Management Segment (formerly called CMM) is integral to ECOSOC’s coordinating role at the heart of the UN development system. Held throughout the year, the Council reviews and approves the latest reports from ECOSOC subsidiary and expert bodies in economic, social, environmental and related fields.
