Strengthening smooth transition from the least developed country category

CDP Background Paper No. 14 By the Secretariat of the Committee for Development Policy This report makes some preliminary suggestions for actions to be taken by the international development community and the graduating countries to strengthen the process of preparing for graduation from the least developed country (LDC) category. The report also offers concrete proposals for addressing in a systematic manner, the current concerns among LDCs about the ad-hoc nature of the extension and phasing out of measures provided by certain development and trading partners. Strengthening International Support Measures for the Least Developed Countries

CDP Policy Note
The present Policy Note takes stock of the nature of the financial, technical and institutional support and preferential trade-related treatments that have been provided to LDCs. It provides an assessment of how useful these existing support measures have been and identifies ways in which they can be made more effective and, where needed, complemented by additional interventions. It also calls for greater coherence between international strategy for LDCs and other existing development strategies, including those initiated by the IMF and the World Bank, to further facilitate development of LDCs.
