On 8 June, at its 2021 Management Segment, the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) adopted its resolution on the report of the Committee for Development Policy (CDP) on its 23rd Plenary Session.

ECOSOC endorsed the CDP recommendation that Bangladesh, Lao People's Democratic Republic and Nepal graduate from the list of least developed countries (LDCs). In accordance with the CDP finding on the need for an extended preparatory period due to COVID-19 pandemic, ECOSOC recommended that the General Assembly (GA) decides that the graduations of the three countries becomes effective five-years after the GA takes note of the CDP's graduation recommendations.

Inter alia, the resolution also notes that the CDP will review the adequacy of the five-year preparatory period in 2024, calls for supporting the CDP's effort to strengthen the monitoring of graduating and graduated countries, further strengthens the consultations with all countries in the graduation process, and encourages development and trading partners to support disaster risk reduction and resilience building in graduating countries.
