Preparing for graduation: meeting in Lao PDR ahead of CDP Triennial Review

In February 2021, the CDP will hold its triennial review of the LDC category. Lao PDR is one of the countries that, depending on its performance on the LDC criteria and other aspects of its development trends, could be recommended for graduation from the category. In this context, on September 8 the Lao PDR Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the UN Resident Coodinator’s Office in Lao PDR jointly organized the first of a planned series of virtual discussions on graduation. The purpose of the event was to brief the Government representatives on the background to the LDC category, the process of graduation, the current status of Lao PDR in the graduation process, and key issues identified through impact assessments that have been completed in support of the preparation of a smooth transition strategy for Lao PDR. The event was attended by the Government representatives from the line ministries who are the members of the LDC Steering Committee, including Ministry of Planning and Investment, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Industry and Commerce, Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and Ministry of Education and Sports.
