On 29 July 2009 Professor Patrick Guillaumont, on behalf of the Committee for Development Policy (CDP), introduced the Committee's findings of the CDPs report on its 11th session at the High-Level Segment of the 2009 ECOSOC session. The 2009 High-level segment of ECOSOC was held from 27 to 31 July 2009, at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, Switzerland and addressed the Council’s overall annual theme “Implementing the internationally agreed goals and commitments in regard to global public health”. As the world grapples with an unparalleled health crisis, older persons have become one of its more visible victims. The pandemic spreads among persons of all ages and conditions, yet available evidence indicates that older persons and those with underlying medical conditions are at a higher risk of serious illness and death from the COVID-19 disease.
