The Highlights of the Global Economic Outlook June 2012
The World economic situation and prospects as of mid-2012 was launched today in New York by Assistant Secretary-General Jomo Kwame Sundaram and DPAD Director Rob Vos. The report notes that the global economic situation is challenging, with heightened risks of a severe downturn. Global growth will likely remain tepid for the rest of the year as most regions are projected to expand at a below-potential pace.
The Secretary-General launched today the website of the Integrated Implementation Framework (IIF): "Tracking Support for the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)" at an informal meeting of the General Assembly. The site will provide searchable information of the progress on commitments made towards the achievement of the MDGs, tracked by the MDG Gap Task Force.
On 4 April 2012 the Chair of the Committee for Development Policy (CDP) Francis Stewart and CDP member Sakiko Fukuda-Parr participated as panelists at a briefing on the “Post 2015 UN Development Framework” convened by the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).
On 28 June 2011 the Secretary of the Committee for Development Policy (CDP) participated as panelist of the International Dialogue on Beyond Istanbul: Challenges after the UN LDC IV and Trade Preferences for LDCs, jointly organised by the Centre for Policy Dialog, the OECD Development Centre and the International Centre for Trade and Sustainable Development (ICTSD) in Geneva, Switzerland.
On 20 June 2011 the Secretariat of the Committee for Development Policy (CDP) organized a briefing to present refinements introduced to the LDC criteria by the CDP at its 13th Plenary session.
On 11 May 2011 the Secretariat of the Committee for Development Policy (CDP) co-organized with the Fondation pour les Etudes et Recherches sur le Développement International (FERDI) an event entitled: "Optimizing Support Measures for LDCs: Access, Utilization and Effectiveness" within the framework of the 4th Conference of United Nations on LDCs.
On 10 March 2011 the Secretary of the Committee for Development Policy (CDP) briefed participants at an event co-sponsored by the Governments of the Maldives and OHRLLS on Graduation and Smooth Transition for LDCs, taking place in New York.
On 9 March 2011 the Secretary of the Committee for Development Policy (CDP) participated at the preparatory event in view of the Fourth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries (UN LDC IV), co-sponsored by the Governments of France and Nepal, and Foundation for Studies and Research on International Development (FERDI) on "Tackling the vulnerability of LDCs: a priority for the Programme of Action of the Istanbul Conference".
