CDP participates at the Expert Group Meeting on UN Support for Graduation and Smooth Transition for LDCs

Professor Keith Nurse, Rapporteur of the CDP and the CDP Secretariat participated in the EGM on UN Support for Graduation and Smooth Transition for the LDCs on 14 December 2017. The meeting was organized by OHRLLS and brought together representatives from LDCs, including from countries that are in the process of graduating or have graduated from the category of the LDCs, representatives from the UN system and other international organizations and experts on LDC specific support and graduation to discuss the needs of LDCs and possible UN response to these needs in relation to graduation and smooth transition. World Economic Situation and Prospects 2018

The world economy has strengthened as lingering fragilities related to the global financial crisis subside. In 2017, global economic growth reached 3 per cent?the highest growth rate since 2011?and growth is expected to remain steady for the coming year.? Expanding productive capacity: Lessons learned from graduating Least Developed Countries

The limited progress of least developed countries (LDCs) in developing their productive capacities remains one of the main obstacles to move towards graduation from the LDC category and to achieve the sustainable development goals. While there is international agreement on the importance of building productive capacity, the question of what policy interventions are successful usually remains unanswered. This Policy Note provides some answers by analyzing the strategies and policy choices of 14 countries that have successfully graduated from the LDC category, or have made noteworthy progress towards graduation. CDP Secretariat participates at capacity building workshop

The CDP Secretariat participated in the capacity building workshop on ?Formulating National Policies and Strategies in Preparation for Graduation from the LDC Category? held in Thimphu, Bhutan during 14 - 16 November 2017. The meeting was organized jointly by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) and the Royal Government of Bhutan to provide information on the graduation process, potential costs and challenges of graduation from the LDC category and how to identify policy measures and strategies to prepare for a smooth transition after graduation.
